| Vali Craciunescu was born on February 13th 1973 in Giurgiu. His love for music started as a child's play. When he was 13, he played an accordion for the first time and fell involve with it. He also tried a trumpet, however it just didn't feel the same. When Vali turned 16, he also learned how to play the piano. His musical experience during his youth years is strongly connected with the School of Folk Art (Scoala de Arta Populara) from Giurgiu, which he attended in addition to his regular studies. At the same school, Vali Craciunescu also learned Folk dances, however it wasn't something that appealed to him. His first musical event occurred around the well known "Golden Age", when he attended the competition Romania's Singing (Cantarea Romaniei) at the national level which was held in Giurgiu, his home town. Vali admits that his whole performance was a big disaster. He was only 13 years old and quickly felt the pressure from everyone's eyes watching him. Among the spectators there were officials from all over the county and because he got so nervous he had to repeat his performance as the first one was a mess. He did manage to finish in 3rd place. During the same time period, as a member of the House of Pioneers "Casa Pionerilor", Vali Craciunescu toured all over the country and internationally, particularly in Bulgaria. Through out high school, which he also finished in Giurgiu, Vali was a member of a folk band called Karma. In 10th grade, he joined a pop-rock band called Aspect where he played until 1992 when he had to join the army. His passion for music followed him there too, starting at first with small performances at parties and eventually at shows organized at the Army House (Casa Armatei). Because of his talent he was rewarded by the commander of his unit with the rank of his personal helper (furrier). After finishing his enrollment, he met Stirbu Petrisor, a founding member of the progressive rock band Floare Albastra. Spil, the name everyone called him, worked in Giurgiu as a professor at the Music School (Scoala de Muzica) very often. Following the famous Spil as an apprentice for over a year, was all Craciunescu needed to perfect his musical skills and a year later join the band Floarea Albastra where he played keyboard instruments and the accordion. In 1994 the band launched a new album called "Coming Out Of The Maze" together with Que Vadis, the first album where Vali Craciunescu was published. During the same time period, the band Floare Albastra was also interviewed by the music TV channel MCM where they also showed the videoclip for the song "Acasa La Contele Dracula". Vali took advantage of this opportunity and proved his virtues by playing on his accordion a few french songs. In 1998 he met Dan Helciug, the lead singer of his next band, Spitalul de Urgenta. Helciug was a student at the Academy of Theater and Film (Academia de Teatru si Film), and Vali was picked to play a secondary role in a short film, Spil, dedicated by one of Dan Helciug's colleagues, Sorin Bucataru, to Stirbu Petrisor. They met on the hallways of ATF and since they became friends. Spitalul de Urgenta quickly rose and in the year 2000 they launched their first album called Traiasca Berea! In 2002 they launched Spitalomania and 2 years later Stupefiant. After the launch of Stupefiant, Vali Craciunescu leaves Spitalul de Urgenta to follow a solo career and launches in 2005 his album called Soc. |
